The portal for Kämnärsrätten – see you at Pireus!
In a project lasting several years, AF Bostäder is converting Kämnärsrätten into a sustainable, long-term urban district where student life and city life will go hand in hand. Two of the seven new quarters have been completed and now construction work will start on Pireus – a Nordic Swan eco-labelled (Svanenmärkt) housing area where students from near and far can meet and inspire each other.
- Spring 2021 – Construction work starts
- Spring 2023 – Move in
The times are preliminary and may be subject to change.

About the new construction project
The housing area Piraeus consists of five varied buildings and provides space for 223 pleasant and smartly planned student apartments, both for students who want to live alone or want to live with someone.
Piraeus is given a punk expression where simple, everyday building constructions become humorous details. Facades in white and black sheet metal with playfully drawn downpipes form graphic patterns that are reminiscent of older half-timbered houses. By creating safe, private courtyards outdoors and bedrooms far into the apartments, we have focused on integrity in an otherwise active place.
The pleasant environment offers extensive green spaces, and lots of places for socialising, both indoors and outside. Planned facilities include a basketball court, a pergola, study rooms and a lounge. Those who need more space can simply go out to one of Campuskilen’s green meeting places with outdoor gym, boules court, table tennis etc. Bicycle parking under cover is, of course, standard for AF Bostäder, and Pireus tenants will also have access to a bicycle repair room.
The well-travelled will soon notice that Pireus, like the rest of Kämnärsrätten, is a quarter that focuses on sustainability. There will be both sedum roofs and solar cell roofs and a holistic view, which means that the quarter more than deserves its Nordic Swan ecolabel. The label is awarded based on a life cycle perspective where consideration is given to low energy consumption, high environmental and health requirements for materials and products, a good indoor environment, low emissions, and a quality-assured building process.
The name Pireus
Pireus takes its name from the Greek port outside Athens. Just as on the coast of Greece it is Kämnärsrätten’s Pireus that is the portal for the area’s visitors. Five buildings at different heights create a hub and entrance to the Kämnärsrätten and is the start of Campuskilen – the long walking, cycling and socialising oasis that stretches through the new quarter.
