Lund University is one of the world’s most distinguished higher education institutions. In Lund’s historical surroundings there is world-leading education and research, the best possible student life and the opportunity to obtain affordable, pleasant and long-term sustainable housing with almost no waiting time. Welcome to Lund University, Studentlund and AF Bostäder – here, a bright future awaits.
Lund University was founded in 1666 and today has approximately 8 000 employees and 45 000 students, divided between Lund, Malmö, Helsingborg and Ljungbyhed. The university is repeatedly ranked as one of the world’s foremost for its broad, high-quality range of theoretical and interdisciplinary courses and programmes. Here, there are opportunities to take part in world-leading research, both at the traditional departments and at the research facilities MAX IV and ESS, and to collaborate with industry at centres such as the science park Ideon and at Science Village, which is under development. In addition, Lund University has a strong international profile, with partner universities in 75 countries.
“Lund University’s significance for scientific and industrial development cannot be overstated,” says Henrik Krantz, CEO at AF Bostäder. “Lund’s long knowledge tradition is not just a stamp of quality, it has also enabled advances that few universities can match. Recently, Anne L’Huillier was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics for 2023.”
The study environment in Lund is hard to beat, with its beautiful, historical city centre in which all the university’s departments and libraries lie interspersed amidst the cityscape, from Lundagård – the epicentre of student life in Lund – and outwards around the city.
“Lund is essentially one large campus area, with the students present all the time as a part of the culture and the city’s identity,” says Henrik Krantz. “Here, everyday life is characterised by the students’ optimism, belief in the future and not least – humour. Student cabarets and carnivals have been a breeding ground for many of Sweden’s cultural figures and attract visitors from all over the country every year.”
Student life is organised around the student unions, student nations and the AF Family – a trinity that together forms Studentlund. The unions monitor the quality of education. The nations offer accommodation and social activities. The AF Family consists of Akademiska Föreningen with its extensive cultural events, AF Borgen – the students’ cultural centre in Lundagård – and AF Bostäder, the students’ own housing company, which has close relations with student life and the university stretching back over many years.
“AF Bostäder is one of Sweden’s largest student housing companies with 6 000 apartments and rooms in central Lund,” says Henrik Krantz. “We own, manage and develop good and affordable housing with a vision to offer Sweden’s best housing for students, something that is repeatedly touched on in our customer surveys. Housing is to be pleasant and sustainable in the long term, which means investments in everything from sound housing environments to green spaces and biodiversity, sport and activities, mental health and much more.”
“We work in close symbiosis with Lund University and have a joint responsibility for ensuring that Lund will continue to be Sweden’s best place to study by far. For us, it is of the greatest importance that Lund University continues to attract a large audience. And the opportunity to obtain housing is a crucial factor when students choose where they are going to study. Few university cities can attract with a student-owned housing company specialising in student housing, and which, due to long-term sustainable initiatives in combination with a fair queue system, can meet most housing needs. Those who come to Lund can look forward to both an education of the highest quality and obtaining their own student housing within a few months, if not immediately. This makes for a bright future,” says Henrik Krantz.
