There is a high demand for housing adapted for students in Lund, but there are many alternatives and most people who are admitted for studies have some form of housing at the start of the semester. AF Bostäder is working in the long term to increase accommodation, and new student housing quarters are taking shape.
New students often ask how long they must be in the queue to get accommodation. In the autumn semester, most students have somewhere to live within a few months, and in the spring semester, most people get accommodation right away. A large proportion of those looking for accommodation get a contract with AF Bostäder, others continue their search with the student nations and private landlords. Some live with friends until they find their own accommodation.
“It generally works out for everyone, and the student housing companies in Lund help out to ensure that no-one is without housing,” says Claes Hjortronsteen, Rental Manager at AF Bostäder. “Many people choose to remain in our queue and can then get better accommodation later.”
AF Bostäder strives for student housing to be of high quality and adapted to the students’ needs. Housing is to be pleasant, sustainable in the long term, and designed to contribute to both Lund’s development and to a living cityscape. In addition, the housing is to be good value for money with rents that the students can afford.
“Such housing provides good conditions for successful student life and good study results, and that is our starting point when we plan our investments. We are currently building six new quarters along Kämnärsvägen. Three are completed, one is under way, and one is in the preparatory stages. New construction will replace older “four-leaf clover” buildings, which initially will reduce student accommodation capacity. A new and sustainable city district will gradually take shape and when everything is completed, we will have doubled the number of student accommodation places in the area,” concludes Claes Hjortronsteen.
