The missing tapestry at Magasinet
At the inauguration of Magasinet, Spolegatan 15, in January 2012, a specially commissioned tapestry was installed by the entrance, just outside the laundry room. This beautiful piece of textile art brought colour and character to the space but disappeared without a trace during the Walpurgis weekend that same year.
The artist behind the tapestry
Jeanette J Treble-Read (b. 1954) grew up in the Möllevången district of Malmö and moved to Bjärred at a young age. She is a trained interior architect from the School of Design and Crafts in Gothenburg. After ten years working at Malmö City’s Property Department, she founded her own company, Qspace, in 2003. Jeanette has extensive experience in both interior design and creative pattern development.
About the artwork
The tapestry, titled Mukabälte, halvkrabba samt cen, is a handmade embroidery produced by the Association of Friends of Handicraft, based on a design by Jeanette J Treble-Read. Measuring 160 x 167 cm, it was commissioned by AF Bostäder as a permanent installation on the entrance level of Magasinet. Jeanette also contributed to the colour scheme of the building during its construction, making the piece especially well-integrated into the overall design of the site.
Unfortunately, the tapestry was stolen during the Walpurgis weekend, and, according to myth, was used as a picnic blanket in the city park. It has not been seen since.
Have you seen it?
We still hope that Mukabälte, halvkrabba samt cen might one day return home to Magasinet. If you have any tips or information, please get in touch. We gratefully welcome all clues.
