AF Bostäder inaugurates Pireus – a Nordic Swan eco-labelled housing area for 300 students

August 22, 2023

At Kämnärsrätten, AF Bostäder is spearheading one of Sweden's most significant endeavors in creating long-term sustainable student accommodations. On August 29, 2023, Pireus, the fourth out of six quarters, will be inaugurated, offering an inviting space for both socializing and solitude. All within a living environment so healthy and eco-friendly that it has been awarded the Nordic Swan eco-label.

Pireus takes its name from the Greek port outside Athens. And, just as on the coast of Greece, it is Lund’s Pireus that is the portal to the new quarters at Kämnärsrätten and to the lush Campuskilen winding through the area.

"Quarters Proto, Sagoeken, and Hippocampus have been inhabited for a few years, and the first students arrived at Pireus in May this year," says Martin Jacobsson, Property Development Manager at AF Bostäder. Those walking or cycling through the area can already experience the visions for this new district. Sustainable, pleasant, and green student life is offered here, naturally interwoven with adjacent neighborhoods.

Pireus consists of five different buildings, varying from three to eight stories, with white facades, black sheet metal features and playfully positioned drainpipes. The 223 student apartments provide space for up to 300 students. There are one-room apartments for those who wish to live alone and larger apartments that are perfect for 2-3 friends who want to live together.

"It's a vibrant quarter with a pleasant courtyard environment, abundant greenery, spaces for sports and play, climbing walls, study rooms, and access to bike repair rooms. We've also taken great care of personal privacy, providing areas for calm and seclusion. Even the individual homes are designed for work and rest, ensuring peaceful nights," says Martin Jacobsson.

AF Bostäder constructs and develops student housing from a community builder's perspective. The residences are meant to be pleasant, long-lasting, and contribute to Lund's attractiveness as a university city. They are strategically located near student life, kept clean, well-maintained, and secure to come home to. All at a price tag that suits students' budgets.

"At Pireus, students can relish an active and comfortable living environment with proximity to all that student life and the city of Lund have to offer. Meanwhile, they can delight in Nordic Swan eco-labelled housing that promises low environmental impact, minimal energy consumption, and a healthy indoor environment," adds Martin Jacobsson.
